I get this question (and its variants) a lot in my quest to help others achieve network marketing success:

“How many people do I really need to

sponsor?” Should I go for quality of quantity? If you sponsor

too many won’t they just end up quitting?

Here’s my response:

If everything were perfect maybe just MAYBE you’d need to sponsor just 3-4.

But the world ain’t perfect ladies and gents

The reality is you really DON’T KNOW how many you have to sponsor.

That in fact is why you need to “work the numbers” as they say and learn how to discriminate prospects with a higher percentage of success than others. By asking qualifying and probing questions to get to the root of WHY they want a better life or WHY they want to make more money, you can tell better their chances of network marketing success when they join your business.

Even then sometimes the most qualified looking prospect may tank and then someone you think won’t do ANYTHING could surprise you with extraordinary effort in their biz. Hint: that’s someone you want to keep an eye on and work with!

Even so, I’d sponsor more than just 3-4 folks. Personally I think 10-20 is a great number to shoot for. If you can get 3-4 folks and increase your recruiting skill level, getting to 10-20 isn’t anymore harder. And you still must assume that only a small number of them will really work the business. It’s just human nature.

So what you need to do is only work with those folks who are really working the business.

And you can work with more than 3-4 folks btw.

if you do it “SMART.”

One of the best ways to do this is to work and train your group with conference calls.

This way your your teaching and training hits multiple ears which is productive time management for you as well.

You can still do 1 on 1s but this is effective with multiple folks.

I think the real important point for your network marketing success here is to work to sponsor 5-7 SOLID LEADERS who are duplicating

YOU. You may have to sponsor 10-20 to get to those, but do it.

You business and lifestyle will THANK YOU!

Lets face some facts here. Although  the internet has made it extremely easy to market your network marketing business, every networker and his/her grandmother is on the internet these days trying to get you to sign on and become their newest distributor newbie for network marketing success. Sadly, most folks today are still using their company’s own cookie cutter marketing material and websites drowning themselves in a sea of look alikes and lessening their chances of catching more prospects and signing up distributors.

When I click on someone’s link that takes me to one of those sites, I’m like “ho-hum” and “next!” Here’s how branding yourself cuts through the noise and makes you stand head and shoulders above the networker crowd, attracting more targeted prospects who are potential distributors for your mlm:

Branding separates you from the rest of the pack.

We all tend to notice the things that are “different” from those things that have become “normal” over time.

Branding positions you as the expert

Effectively branding yourself means you have to selflessly provide some content that helps people to succeed in network marketing, hopefully like this article is doing RIGHT NOW

Branding positions YOU as an ASSET

“With great power comes great resposibility.”

Spiderman (my favorite superhero)  had his uncle Owen say this to him about his super powers and it was a defining moment for Peter, affecting how he would devote his crime fighting career to helping people. IMHO branding gives you great power to attract others to YOU. And now you have a great responsibility in your network marketing career to give back and help others in return while you achieve network marketing success.

If you’ve been around the block at all in network marketing you’ve heard the classic phrase,

“Ignorance on fire is better than knowledge on ice!”

Okay, I agree – to a point.

Here’s the deal. You don’t EVER want to be ignorant about what truly goes on about your business

whether its a network marketing business or any other business you’re investing your hard earned money and time into.

Lets say some guy told you that if you just invested $50,000 of your hard earned money into some oil scheme you’ll make triple your money. Then he says you don’t need to fully understand how the money would be invested and exactly HOW and when you’d earn back your investment.

Then he tells you to go recruit some of your friends and family and just let your excitement and enthusiasm compensate for your lack of knowledge.

I see this all the time in network marketing.

For some reason folks think its ok to throw caution to the wind when doing your due diligence investigating an mlm business.

Do yourself a favor. Don’t.

Here’s the problem. You’re doing yourself and your potential business partner a major disservice when you recruit solely on enthusiasm alone.

If your network marketing business collapses your parnters may be PISSED.

But really, you owe it to yourself as an entrepreneur and investor in your own mlm business to ask all the tough questions and thoroughly understand the potential of your network marketing business.

I see newbies and experienced networkers who don’t understand their compensation plan because their friggin sponsor has convinced them that Oh, they don’t need to understand the comp plan right now. They can learn it along the way.

Well what if the comp plan sucks? And they learn that “along the way”? Also mind you certain comp plans are waaaaay better than others. Some reward well with high upfront retail sales while some reward better on the residual back end.

And some comp plans aren’t worth the paper their printed on.

I also see new ignorantly burning distributors who know nothing about the principals of their business.

They have no CLUE how successful they are, or what businesses they’ve run in the past.

They don’t know what past legal entanglements the principals have been involved in or what current legal issues their current company might be dealing with.

In short anyone who plans to relies soley on ignorant enthusiam blasting right out of the gate in their new network marketing business may be selling themselves short

long term because they haven’t spent enough up front time understanding how viable their mlm business is and how suited they are to work the business.

Do yourself a favor. Ask the right questions before you join a new mlm. Strive for KNOWLEDGE on fire instead of ignorance.

Twitter is a microblogging service that lets anyone enter and send short messages or “tweets” of up to 140 characters  in length to the internet. Any one who “follows” you gets your tweet . You can send messages to everyone, to a particular person. You can take someones message and resend it to your own group. Having a list of followers is a little like having an email list. Although there are other services out there, twitter is the most well known and most popular by far.

How can you use twitter for your network marketing business? Heres how:

Self Promotion

Twitter allows you to promote yourself, your brand or whatever you’d like to promote actually. As a network marketer you can talk about your network marketing business, or your mlm product or service, and promote events.

Get Network Marketing Business Help

Yup, you can simply ask a question like “how can I attract more mlm prospects to my network marketing business?”

Connect With Other Network Marketers

Twitter allows you to connect with other network marketers which can help you form relationships and partnerships and find potential distributors.

Run A Contest For Your Mlm Business

Ive seen this done very successfully. You can actually take a poll and ask questions much like you might if you had a list. Something like, “help me find the best name for my new product and I’ll give you x”.

Take A Poll – similar to the above. Ask a question like “What are the top mlm training tools you use”?

Twitter is a fantastic social media service. Learn how to use it properly and grow your mlm business!

Yo, if you think that there aren’t any in politics in your network marketing company then please think again!

Have you ever wondered why it seems like some of the TOP mlm distributors in the mlm industry seem to always be at the top of any mlm company?

Did you ever wonder how these mlmers got there? Did you think that they were just THAT GOOD (maybe they were or are) or did something in your gut make you wonder, “hmmmm….. there’s something fishy at work here.”

Well, your gut instincts were right.

Some (not necessariy all) mlm companies sometimes pay to have top recruiters come aboard and literally be their FIRST mlm distributor.

Now, I’m not saying this is necessarily wrong. If you have a traditional company you don’t just hire ANY CEO do you? You go out and hire someone who you think has the best shot at helping your company be successful. I’m all for that. (Except for the idiots in the financial industry that have run their companies into the ground and then WE have to pay for it!)

It just that you may not be aware that this sort of practice exists at all in the mlm industry or in your mlm company.

Again I’m NOT necessarily passing judgement on this, BUT I DO think its important that you’re aware of some of the behind the scenes activities that the top networkers have access to that you probably don’t.

So yes, there are some players that hop from mlm marketing deal to deal,  getting sweetheart offers from the network marketing companies to build a business at THEIR mlm company. In some instances they MAY be paid on a monthly basis to do this. Does it mean the mlm company isn’t sound? No.

Its my job to make folks like us aware of what really goes on in mlm thats all.

So the next time some top mlmer from your mlm company is flashing shiny success in your face, at least now you know what might be going on behind the scenes.

Okay.  So you’re all excited about being in your new network marketing business. Congratulations! Or you’ve been in the network marketing business for a while. Congratulations for sticking with it. Here’s a question. What are you DOING or what HAVE you been doing to market your network marketing business? Whats the difference between where you are today and the top guns in the industry? One big difference: They know how to MARKET their business and THEMSELVES day in and day out.

Is your network marketing strategy limited to the old school warm market list and invite-a-friend-and-hope-they-show-up-to-my-opportunity-meeting strategy?
Nothing necessarily wrong with that but the top networkers and waaay beyond that…. Most people don’t have a background in marketing and aren’t told much about how to market either from the network marketing company or their upline when they join.

The top guns in the industry are savvy marketers. They understand fundamental marketing principles and the psychology of marketing. They’ve developed (over time) a skillset that allows them to use multiple marketing strategies to attract, communicate and influence people into their business. That’s why you keep hearing about them and signing up for their opt-in lists and seeing them on stage at trainings and you’re buying their products.

These guys and gals are all over the Internet, marketing themselves with video, audio, blogs, social networks, you name it. You’re probably following them on twitter and on several of their lists. When they talk you listen. When they recommend a product you probably buy it. By the way, they’re marketing themselves offline too.

Many of us just aren’t told HOW to market like this, not even by our uplines. Its unfortunate too, because they generally speaking, these players are incredibly nice, but you need access to them 24/7 to really understand marketing and its just not realistic to get a lot of their time unless, their coaching you specifically. So what do you do? What we all need is convenient ongoing access to a system that will teach you about fundamental marketing principles for your network marketing business.
